The DC Metro Chapter of the Twelve Days of Christmas, Inc., was established in 2003 by
Kimberley Alton-Calhoun, Kimberly Loder-Albritton, Kristina Ennix and Nicole Hyson. These four dynamic ladies were friends or relatives of the co-founders of the original chapter, Houston, TX. The inaugural membership in Washington, D.C. totaled 12 women who wanted to carry on the organization’s mission by giving to less fortunate children and families in their area. The organization has grown to 45 members since its inception. Fundraising efforts have increased from $2,000 to over $50,000 from our two annual fundraising parties and corporate sponsorship, and the outreach to families has expanded from the District of Columbia (DC) to include the Metro DC area of Maryland and Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland.

Greetings from our Nation’s Capital!  For the past 20 years, the DC Metro Chapter has served over 60 children of promise annually in the DMV.  We serve with immense joy, and there is no greater reward than to experience the direct impact that we have on the families.  Our ardent sponsors and supporters have allowed us to stand in the gap for families in need, with back-to-school shopping, as well as fulfilling Christmas wish lists.  We are proud to have surpassed our highest fundraising goals to date, by raising over $96k this past year.

However, there is still work to be done with your continued support.  As we continue to honor our Founders, Gayla Gardner and Donya Gardner, our chapter is laying the foundation for our R.E.A.D Literacy initiative.  We are expanding our giving by helping children build their personal libraries with books that will feed and fuel their minds.  Oh, the places they will go with the gift of reading and expanding their imaginations.

The dynamic hostesses of the DC Metro Chapter are dedicated to our mission of sharing blessings through collective effort, charitable giving, and community involvement.  As stated by the great Shirley Chisholm, “Service is the rent you pay for room on this earth,” and it is an honor and a pleasure to serve alongside them.
